Case Study

The process for “The Assault” which involved some preliminary sketches for the soldiers which are the centerfold of the piece.

This is another earlier ink sketch of one the marines. This didn’t make into the final piece. I go through a lot of sketching when it comes to a design for these characters. For this piece I went through five full pages of sketching to get these characters right. I really grabbed al ot from world war 2 as reference for when I create my soldiers cause it creates a different feel of combat since that was one our bloodiest conflicts involving the entire world.

These are sketches done after the initial concept for the soldier was created. The purpose of this sketch is to develop a look for different variety of soldiers this world would have.. In the end this particular piece called for the bottom right character which is supposed to be a recon specialist. I went into detail in these sketches so that when I make the final product it will feature more put together characters in the scene itself.

Before I could create the main piece I needed to develop an environment to place the characters in. I thought of a valley or a ditch with a stream to be a good choice so I created a initial sketch to get the layout of how the scene would look.

**I wanted the environment to look like it belonged to a native peoples without showing them so I created states to represent the religion and ht worshipping of deities.**

**The statues however looked to humanlike and I need a more ambiguous kind of look a god that represented the planet rather then the people that lived there.**

**This is a sketch for the background of the scene. They were mainly added to give the idea that this is an impending invasion and that the overwhelming force is the core of winning to the invaders.**

It has been many months since of recon on this planet many, many long months. It is very clear that the inhabitants of this planet are peaceful and clearly have never even seen a weapon.But that doesn’t matter my partner knows this doesn’t matter. I see ships streak across the sky they’ll turn this fucking surface into a glowing red iris for the whole system to witness.
